Honduras Mission:
Friday Night February 10 - Saturday February 18, 2012
What is Honduras Mission? Our Honduras Mission trip is located in Azacualpa, Honduras at the Ministries of Faith and New Life children’s home. Established in 2001, The Children’s home exists to serve the needs of children and the people of the surrounding communities. The home currently has 16 children who permanently live at the home along with several staff members. In addition to caring for the children, The home is a hub for many community outreaches like a daily feeding program, church services, sports leagues, and soon to be completed classrooms for education.
How do we serve? Where do we stay? Mornings are spend at the home working on small projects (painting, light construction etc.), afternoons are spent interacting with the children and helping with feeding program and of coarse playing soccer. Evenings are spent experiencing the local culture and visiting local churches. All participants stay at the children’s home with the kids and staff.
Who can go? Anyone 18 and older is encouraged to attend. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian, and be able to contribute to the work projects being done. *passport is needed.
Cost? $200 per person (food lodging and ground transportation) plus the cost of airfare ($400-$800)

Mission Navajo:
Friday March 16- Saturday March 23, 2012
What is Mission Navajo? Mission Navajo is located on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona/ New Mexico. Our mission to the Navajo reservation focuses on meeting basic human needs (food, shelter and clothing) for those most in need. We work to meet these needs by partnering with local organizations, churches, and individuals on the Navajo reservation. Sowing into the community and building these partnerships are very important to our mission as our time there is short and we want to have a lasting impact. God has shown us great things simply with our desire to share the love of Jesus, through acts of service and relationship building with those we meet.
How do we serve? Where do we stay? We serve in various ways, but most of our projects consist of helping meet basic needs of food, shelter and clothing those in greatest need. We work to find ways to use everyone’s unique skills. We stay at local churches in very basic accommodations typically separated by gender.
Who can go? Families & Individuals are encouraged to participate in this mission. Although this is a great family experience, there are no organized activities apart from the large group for children, and look to parents to integrate and supervise their children into the day-to-day activities. We recommend children be in first grade or higher for this trip.
Cost: $325 per person (includes travel, food and lodging)

Supper at the Station - Second Thursday night of each month
Supper at the Station is a weekly community meal that is served at Lutheren Church of Hope's Northbranch location in Ankeny. There are several churches getting involved and Prairie Ridge has committed to the second Thursday of each month. We will make and serve a meal to about 50 people from the Ankeny Community. Many of those we serve need a little extra help, and this free meal is a huge blessing to them. In addition to the meal, the goal is that we can be a place of community building and relationships.
There are 2 ways your small group or family can get involved:
1) Prepare the meal: once a month we will need a meal prepared for 50 people. We have a meal schedule for the main dish, but the rest can be up to your group. Your group can make this meal and freeze it, or make it fresh for the night of serving- it is up to you. This is a great way to involve your group in serving- especially if you can not commit to serving on a Thursday night. We suggest making a small group night a meal preparation night together!
2) Serving the meal: on the second Thursday of each month we will need a small group to help serve the meal and eat with the participants. Prairie Ridge members Mary & Doug Kohlsdorf have committed to hosting for our church and will be present each Thursday that we serve- They will show your family or small group what to do etc. All you need to do is show up willing to love others and serve!
To sign up to help in prepare or serve the meal click here
Description: "The Herd" meets the "prairie" each third Saturday of the month from 7:00-8:30 am at The Ridge. Join other men as we informally gather for coffee (7:00 am), breakfast (7:30am), fellowship, and some straight talk about "guy stuff".
Event Dates:
January 21
February 18
